This may not seem like a benefit at first, but this trait protects ‘Anticipation’ from any late freezes or frosts. There were many years that we thought the tree was dead because it had been so long. ‘Anticipation’ routinely waits until the middle to end of April here in Georgia to leaf out, easily the last cultivar at our nursery to do so. This is where the name ‘Anticipation comes from. It’s most unique feature however, is how late this tree emerges in the spring. It is a beautiful red lace leaf that seems to have an irregular growth habit.
